Higher Education—An Engine of Equality
Nowadays more and more people start to question the function of higher education as an equalizer. Thus there is a growing controversy over whether higher education intensifies the inequality in society. In my perspective, it is not sensible to blame the inequality brought about by born and intensified by the unequal society on higher education.
Generally, universities or colleges admit students by the talent-oriented or score-oriented principle. In the other words, wealthy or not, as long as a student is qualified to enter a certain university judging from his special talent or marks in the college entrance examination, he can obtain the opportunity to pursue his study in the university. A university takes not the disparity in family backgrounds but the difference in talents into consideration while selecting the students. So higher education doesn’t discriminate anybody.
In addition, students enrolled in a university have the equal access to the educational resources provided by the university. …………
What’s more, almost every university has set up various kinds of scholarships, of which some are equally available for any student competent enough to be qualified, others, with humanization, are particular for students in need. Student loans are also designed for students who can’t afford the education fees. …………
