Urban Life and Rural Life

There are mainly two different kinds of life for people to choose-- urban life and rural life. Some people pursue urban life, while some prefer rural life. However, both of them have the advantages and the disadvantages. Although, it is difficult to say which kind of life is better, we can compare them and be more clear about them.

As for urban life, it does have many strong points. On the one hand, cities have more high technologies, and their economies are more prosperous. Therefore, cities have convenient transportation and more various commodities. On the other hand, in most cities, it is easier to receive good educations and to have more opportunities to develop one’s career.

On the contrary, urban life also has its drawbacks. Firstly, some developed cities are so serious polluted that some people coming from other areas could not adapt to it and get ill frequently. Secondly, people are more busy and more lonely. Besides,they have less time to enjoy lives. On account of their lifestyles, some of them or even a larger number of them are not familiar to their neighbors.

Nevertheless, there are still many people who would like to lead urban life.” Living in cities, especially in metropolises, is more colorful and it is a good opportunity to broaden our horizon. Although, this kind of life is more challenging , it is more suitable for achieving one’s dream.” A Chinese student studying in Nanjing said.

In terms of rural life, it is totally different. However, it also has pros and cons. There are mainly two benefits. The first is that people are more friendly and more likely to help each others in rural areas, in general. They are less alert, and are less worried about public securities or something else. Consequently, in some rural areas, the happiness index is even higher than that of some metropolises. The second is that rural areas have better environments. Not only are they clean and good for people’s health, but also there is more green space for each person. People are closer to the nature and can know more about it.

However, rural areas also has their cons. The biggest problem is that the infrastructure of rural areas often lags behind the urban areas. For instance, education systems, medical institutions, transportation, and communication technologies still need to be improved. Another serious problem is that working in rural areas hinders people’s career development. For example, although some university students want to come back to their hometowns, there is no position being suitable for them.

Nonetheless, it is still undeniable that many people like to take vacations in the countryside. What’s more, we can occasionally hear some adults said,” I would like to move to the countryside when I am retired.”
