Eg:He noticed that the trace of a smile lingered on her face when she was not smiling.
My writing:After the sun setting, the afterglow still lingered on over the wide ground.

2 Evade:to escape from sb/sth or avoid meeting sb
Eg :He knew that sleep would evade him.
Mine: The face of this man still evaded her,so that she couldn’t recognize him at all.

3nibble & gnaw:
Nibble away at sth:to take away small amounts of sth,so that the total amount is gradually reduced.
Gnaw away at/on sth:to keep biting sth or chewing it hard,so that it gradually disappears.
Eg:He let the pain of his affliction nibble and gnaw away at his heart.
Mine:The marriage has nibbled and gnawed away at her love.

4bankrupt:without enough money to pay what you owe.
Eg:their skills at pretense and flattery literally went bankrupt at this point.
Their plan that dominated the world went bankrupt.

5dawdle:to take a long time to do sth or go somewhere.
Eg:Her son usually a very quick eater, dawdled around that day, waiting for her to question hung-chien.
Mine:They dawdled along the way, laughing and talking.

6 Slide:to move easily over a smooth or wet su***ce.
Eg:He stole a glance at Miss Su’s face, which was so bright and pure that it seemed the moonlight splashed over it would slide right off.
Mine:The sky was so clear and azure that the cloud never move at all lest he slide down from it.

7 Spin:~(around/round)to turn round and round quickly;to make sth do this
Eg:The image of her smile floated in his mind like a leaf spinning in a whirlpool.
Mine:The little cat chased his tail, spinning like a peg-top going around.

8 Plunge :~into
A to jump into sth, especially with force.
B to start doing sth in an enthusiastic way, especially without thinking carefully about what you are doing.
Eg:She could plunge into the next day’s happiness with one leap.
Mine :Through the long tunnel,it plunged into my eyes a picture of a length and breadth of land.

9 Pin sb down: to make sb make a decision or say clearly what they think or what they intend to do.
Eg:when one tries to pin down advocates of violence as to what acts would be effective, the answers are blatantly illogical.
Mine :it’s the best time to judge a person that he pins down the trifles of life.

10 meander:to curve a lot rather than being in a straight line
Eg:there will be still rocky places of frustration and meandering points of bewilderment.
Mine:The Great Wall meanders over the mountain down to the distant place.
