My hometown is Dong yang. Where you hear it, you may fell strange and ask me “ you mean you are a Japanese?”. Of course not, yang means the sun, not the Japan. Dong yang means eastern sun. it is very common if you do not know Dong yang.it is a Chinese city of about 800,000 people in the center of Zhejiang Province, about 200 kilometers south of Hangzhou. It covers an area of 1739 square kilometers. But you must hear of Hengdian which has great reputation of “Hollywood of china”. There are many traditional buildings. And lots of films are made there. Speaking of Dong yang, Dong yang Wood carving is necessary. It has been reputed as one of the best folk handicrafts and a national treasure, as one of the four major schools of woodcarving in China. Dong yang has been honored as the hometown of woodcarving since ancient time. Dong yang Woodcarving came into being early in Tang Dynasty. In Song Dynasty, it reached a high state of the art. During the period of Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, Dong yang Woodcarving came into flourishing.
