The Impact of Social Networking Sites in Us
Nowadays, what do you first do when you turn on your computers? Checking E-mail? Browsing news? Those are old-fashioned. If you ask people this question, 8 out of 10, you will get answers like logging on Facebook, Twitter, Xiaonei, QQ. That’s right, social networking sites like those are now playing a big role in our cyber life. It is to say that almost all of us have and use computers now, we do our school works with it and more importantly, we live our social lives on it. When we meet someone and want to be friends with them these days, we ask them for their online information such as if he or she has a qq number or a xiaonei account so that we can keep in touch with them online.
Like all other things, it is a double-edged sword; for the bright side, when you are on those sites, you can talk to your friends, even someone who is a complete stranger. it is a good way for us to communicate with people, to get to know each other, we don’t have to worry about all the social awkwardness, we don’t have to set up a time or a place to meet up, all we’ve got to do is get online and start typing, whenever and wherever you feel like it.
On the other hand, social networking sites are *** us more and more distanced, speaking of which, there is a guy lives next to me, I’ve friended him up on xiaonei a long time ago but when we actually meet each other, we don’t have that much to talk about, as a matter of fact, we barely even say hey. Of course online chatting and playing games has more fun than what we have in the real world, and on top of it, it is a easier way. But isn’t it sad that if we can only chat with each other online but not in person, like normal people, hanging out and have fun together?
Anyways, we can not stop technologies from developing with a high speed; we can not be isolated from the rest of the world, and certainly, we can not let computers take control of our lives. So we might as well just try our best to balance what we have here now and at the same time, still keep some good-old social skills.
