Inequality in Chinese education

Education is always playing the role as the great equalizer. However,a study by Stanford University shows that the gap in standardized-test scores between low-income and high-income students has widened about 40 percent since the 1960s—now double that between black and white students.In China,the same problem also exists now.Thus,the equality in eduction has to be denied.
First,the rate of the students who can go to school are quite different in different areas.In some undeveloped places,especially some urban places,parents cannot afford children's tuition fee.Some children should help their parents work the lands at the very early age.There is a story that can clearly reflect this problem.Once a reporter asked a cowherd boy：why do you punch cows everyday? He replied:To earn money. Then the reporter asked:why do you earn money? He said:To have a wife. Then the reporter said：why do you tend to have a wife? He said :To have a baby. Then reporter asked:what do you want your child to do when he grows up？He answered :Punch cows.In urban areas,people seldom think about going to school,and they even do not dare to think about that,because they do not have enough money.However,children in most of the cities go to school when they are 7,and their parents do not worry about that.What's more,as most people know that it is easier to gain access to the universities which are in the same province as they live.Actually,it is unfair for the students who live in other provinces. From the two examples,we can see it clearly that different areas led to education inequality.
Second,different economical basis causes the different rate of success.Students who are born in rich families learn more than who are born in poor families.This is because parents in rich families want their children to learn fresh things,such as some instruments,dancing,panting or singing.And most children are forced to have extra classes in order to consolidate what they learn in school. These parents have enough money to cultivate children and find their real talents,so these children have more opportunities to success.While children in poor families nearly have no chance to gain extra abilities after school.
Education is not equal to equality.Sometimes,education is even the cause of inequality.In order to construct a harmonious society and make education a real equalizer,our government should make great efforts to get rid of these inequalities,and everyone should do our best to solve the problem together.
