Modern china is in a social transformation stage, which represents the all-around social reformation lead by economic reformation have launching in the country. And the education system as a crucial part of the whole social system is facing the crisis of imbalance. It is not just because the education system has an equivalent relation with social structure but also due to lack of a new concept of educational value. Consequently, educational inequality as a refection of the problem of the social structure, meanwhile, is exacerbating our social inequality.
Through a series of selection process, some students have the opportunities to entry a desirable university and take the process and opportunities as granted. For them, it is tend to give too little care to the potential unfairness in the selection and educational system. However the problem shouldn’t be ignored by the society, especially as a result of social inequality. When we try to find what lead to the social inequality, we can see that regional disparity, social stratification, national distinction and relatively more common issue about gender are all reasons. Firstly, regional disparity as the primary problems in education can’t be removed easily because across the country there so many universities and most of them adopt the policy of protecting local student resources. As a result of that, it’s really harder to entry those famous universities for students in other provinces compare to local students. Secondly, social stratification as a economic factor also play an important role in the social inequality. Our social structure is facing a transformation which generally focus on economic reformation and the classification of society also depend on the level of income. In the same way, the quality of education more and more depend on the economic support; especially we can see this phenomenon in children education. Thirdly, minorities in our country may also lead to the potential inequality mostly because of the differences in culture and language. Finally, the gender issue is a controversial topic in our modern society for a long period of time and indeed there some phenomenon we can see in the reality, such as ***ism in choosing students’ majors in many universities.
On the other hand, our education inequality has a great impact on social structure. Elites’ educational system, which becomes more fashionable and popular in recent years, leads to social inequality more or less. Owing to these elites is a little part of the whole society after all and they may control or occupy most of crucial positions, numbers of ordinary people will be unsatisfied by the educational inequality which exacerbating the wild gaps between different social stratums to some degree.
Generally, in the problem of educational and social inequality, how to overcome those difficulties is really a challenge for our country and also for everyone, and meanwhile it is a great opportunity to complete the educational transformation and reformation, to establish a new educational concept and system for thousands of students and families.
